Accommodation and information

Overnight accomodation

The Yorkshire Dales is well served by a wide variety of accomodation from campsites and hostels, through to B&Bs and pubs. With all types of accomodation, single night bookings at bank holiday weekends and in the school holidays can be harder to come by, so some forward planning is essential.

The Harvey map of the Yorkshire Dales Cycle Way, available from our online shop

The Yorkshire Dales Cycleway map shows the locations of hostels, campsites and bunkhouses along the route, together with which towns and villages have accomodation available. The map is available from our online shop, from Harvey Maps, and in local National Park and Tourist Information Centres.

You can book accomodation on-line and check availability on Welcome to Yorkshire, or contact one of the National Park or Tourist Information Centres for advice. On our accommodation page you can also find details of those providers we know that offer facilities for cyclists such as secure bike lock ups.

Food and drink

Lunch at Malham

One of the great things about cycling in the Dales is that most villages have kept hold of their shops, cafes and pubs so you are never far away from somewhere to stock up on a bit of food or a stop for a coffee. Cafes and shops are marked on the map of the route - we would give you a list of favourites but it would be too long.

Getting here and away

Cycling across Malham Moor

Being a circular route you can start and finish the route wherever you wish. The official start is in Skipton with an alternative beginning in Ilkley, and it is easy to access either by train. The trains from Leeds to Skipton and Ilkley carry bikes at no charge and with no need to book, although it is worth avoiding rush hour services. There is also the famous Leeds to Settle–Carlisle line which can take you to Settle, Clapham and Dent stations. Again your bikes are carried free but it is a good idea to book a place. These services are operated by Northern Rail.

There is also the Wensleydale Railway from Leeming Bar to Leyburn and Redmire, which carries bikes free of charge in a guard’s van. For full details contact National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.
