Ranger Service

Rangers have an important role to play in looking after the National Park, protecting and maintaining wildlife, environment and access opportunities of the Yorkshire Dales for all to enjoy, now and in the future. They are responsible for maintaining the public rights of way in the National Park and for managing open access.

The Rangers are based in the areas for which they are responsible. This ensures they are easily available as an important point of contact between residents, visitors and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.

Area Rangers will be happy to help you with any queries you have about the National Park and how the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority may be able to help you as a resident or visitor.

Rangers and their areas:

The National Park is divided into eight areas that are each managed by an Area Ranger. Each area has an Access Ranger whose work includes the maintenance of footpaths, bridleways and other Public Rights of Way.  The areas and their Rangers are listed in the right hand column.
