Consultations on Conservation Area Appraisals

There are 37 Conservation Areas in the Yorkshire Dales National Park - these are areas that have been designated for their architectural and historical importance. A Conservation Area Appraisal highlights what is so special about an area that it deserved this designation.

We have been consulting on the Conservation Area Appraisals for many of the Conservation Areas in the National Park - all such consultations are currently closed.

The most recent consultation was about the Conservation Area Appraisals for Kettlewell and Starbotton. This closed on 2 October 2011 and the findings and amended Conservation Area Appraisals will be published in due course.

The draft appraisal documents for Kettlewell and Starbotton are still available - download them using the links below:

All other consultations on Conservation Area Appraisals are currently closed. All adopted appraisals are available from the Conservation Areas page.

Consultation Area boundary changes

The National Park Authority has a rolling programme of Conservation Area reviews. Many of our Conservation Areas were designated quite some time age, and so physical changes to towns and villages, as well as changes to designation criteria, will mean that amendments to the boundaries of Conservation Areas are required periodically. In recent years, reviews have resulted in changes to the boundaries of the following Conservation Areas:

Buckden – boundary changed November 2010

Dent – boundary changed May 2010

Hubberholme – boundary changed May 2010

Langcliffe – boundary changed November 2010

Linton – boundary changed September 2008

Sedbergh – boundary changed March 2010

Settle – boundary changed May 2010

Settle-Carlisle Railway – boundary changed May 2010

The reasons for the changes to Conservation Area boundaries are explained in their accompanying appraisals, which can be found on our Conservation Areas page. Maps showing the boundary changes can be downloaded above.
