Thistles and other invasive weedswere a real problem to the
Limestone Country Project
wrap
Invasive weeds such as thistles, ragwort and bracken were a serious problem in some parts of the Project area. Invasive weeds out-compete the more important species of plants, and rabbits graze away the species-rich swards. To combat this, the Project purchased two weed-wiping machines which the farmers used to control weeds over 300 hectares of land and this was supplemented by contractors who dealt with weeds over a further 677 hectares.
Contractors were also employed to control rabbits and covered 6,800 hectares during the Project.
