Your Yorkshire Dales National Park

Yourkshire Dales National Park: a snapshot

Photo competition

What do you love about the National Park and would like to see looked after? What things would you change if you could to keep or improve the area as a special place to live, work and visit? These are the thoughts behind the Yorkshire Dales National Park photo competition - Your Yorkshire Dales National Park: a snapshot.

In 2012 we are busy looking into the future of the National Park and creating new National Park Management Plan and Vision documents that set out the work we, and a lot of different organisations, will do over the coming years to help look after this protected area. The comments and photos collected through this photography competition will really help us in this process.

How do you enter the photo competition?

Images have to be taken within the Yorkshire Dales National Park boundary and there are four broad themes to enter them under:

  • wildlife and habitats

  • people and places

  • fun and adventure

  • farming, tourism and other employment

Each photo must be accompanied by a brief explanation as to why you feel it illustrates what you’d like the National Park to be like in ten years time.

Your snapshot must have been taken using a camera with a sufficiently high resolution to allow the image to be reproduced at A4 size or above (at 300 ppi). We recommend that you use a camera of 4 mega pixels or more.

You can submit up to five images - the deadline is 3pm on 9 November 2012.

You can choose to enter your photos into the full competition and the potential to win a prize, or just submit them to share your views on what you think the future of the Yorkshire Dales National Park should look like.

What are the prizes?

There are fantastic prizes for up to 20 people to win. Read all about them on our Prize page.

How much does it cost?

We do not charge an entrance fee.

Who can enter?

You don’t have to live in the Yorkshire Dales National Park to enter the competition – the photo just needs to be of the National Park. There are also no age limits, but there will be an under-18 and adult overall first prize awarded.

Unfortunately employees, volunteers and Members of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, along with judges, are not eligible to win any prizes but are welcome to share their photos and comments as part of the consultation process about the future of the area.

How will it be judged?

Judges will look at both the photo and accompanying text when making their decision. The panel is yet to be confirmed but details will be published here once known.
