General information about the photo competition
‘Your Yorkshire Dales National Park: a snapsot’ is a photographic display and competition run and owned by ‘Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’. In the following terms and conditions the references to ‘Your Yorkshire Dales National Park: a snapsot’, ‘Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’ and ‘the competition’ are interchangeable.
There are two elements to ‘Your Yorkshire Dales National Park: a snapsot’. Firstly, images and text will be considered as part of a prize-winning competition, and secondly, images and text will be used as part of the consultation process and will inform the creation of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Management Plan and Vision documents.
The competition is open to everyone except employees, volunteers and Members of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. It is not open for the judges or their friends or family to enter either. Submission of images for consideration in the consultation is permitted for everyone.
Photographs must be taken of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but there is no time limit of when they must have been taken.
All entries must be submitted digitally (scans from film are acceptable) and must be emailed to yourthoughts@yorkshiredales.org.uk. No entries will be accepted by mail. No digital files will be returned.
The competition opens on 16 January 2012 and closes at 3PM on the 9 November 2012. No entries or image uploads can be accepted after this time. Please make sure that you allow enough time to complete your entry.
A maximum total of five images per entrant may be submitted across the four categories – wildlife and habitats, people and places, fun and adventure, and farming, tourism and other employment. These may be submitted together or separately at any point while the competition is open. Once your limit of five images has been reached all subsequent entries from you will not be accepted to the competition.
Colour, black and white, panoramic and square images are all accepted.
There are no entry fees payable but entrants should be aware that they may be subject to local call charges depending on their own individual arrangements for Internet access.
Your entry
Image files should be emailed to yourthoughts@yorkshiredales.org.uk along with the accompanying text for each image, please use the downloadable Entry Form to record this text and submit the details of the image. If both text and photos are not received then your photograph will not be entered into the competition. See below about how to name your files.
Some file sizes are too large to email. Please reduce your images so that you do not email more than 3MB at one time. Make sure you do not save over your originals as, if you are a winner, we will ask you to supply us with a copy of your larger image. If you can not supply us with a larger image your image may then be removed from the competition and an alternative winner/runner-up chosen. See file sizes for information about what size we would expect you to be able to supply photographs as if requested to do so.
No responsibility can be taken by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority for images that are submitted incorrectly, that are not received, that are corrupt or not possible to open, or that you are unable to send.
Naming your files
Please name your digital photo files with your surname, initial and then image number and the word ‘photo’. For example, if your name is John Smith and you are submitting five images, your numbers would run from smithj1photo.jpg to smith5photo.jpg.

Please do not include capital letters, spaces or any other characters in your file names. All images will be cross-referenced by the organisers with a unique identifying number so that the judging is completely anonymous.
