The marsh cinquefoil is a close relative of the tormentil. The plant has striking red or purple flowers. It is a good source of nectar for bees and flies and its roots are the source of a red-yellow dye. This species can be found across the British Isles in marshes and on the edge of pools. In the Yorkshire Dales National Park it is an uncommon plant as there are only small areas of suitable habitat.
