Burnsall

One of the most beautiful villages in Wharfedale, Burnsall lies on a bend of the River Wharfe surrounded by a spectacular circle of fells. The village was originally an Anglo-Viking settlement and the parish church still contains rare hog-backed Viking gravestones.

There is a riverside village green, a shop, two cafés and two inns.

The Dales Way footpath runs through the village on its way to Grassington via Loup Scar (disabled access as far as Loup Scar), or you can walk southwards to Appletreewick, Barden Tower and Strid Woods - part of the Duke of Devonshire's estate at Bolton Abbey.

Other popular walks lead to the hidden village of Thorpe, Cracoe, Hebden, Parcevall Hall Gardens and the spectacular Troller’s Gill, whilst keen fell walkers will find a choice of routes onto the high moorland onto Barden Moor Access Area.
