Redmire is quiet village, with pleasant village greens, a pub and village shops. In recent years the village has enjoyed new visitor interest as the western terminus of the Wensleydale Railway which links it to Leeming Bar, Leyburn and Bedale.
It is less than a mile from Redmire to Castle Bolton, with its imposing castle (correctly known as Bolton Castle) which is well worth a visit, as is the little 13th century village church of St Oswald, situated on the attractive, defensive village green.
There are good walks from both Redmire and Castle Bolton to Carperby or Aysgarth or you can walk along the river past the Bolton Estate to the village of Wensley and from there to Leyburn. Keen walkers can pick up the tracks over Apedale to Grinton and Reeth.
