There can be few more spectacular places to start a ride than Aysgarth Falls, with the River Ure crashing over a series of spectacular waterfalls. This ride explores the valley of Wensleydale linking some lovely villages. It is largely flat with a few short climbs giving great views of this beautiful valley.
Turn left on leaving the National Park Centre car park, and climb the hill to a road junction. Turn left again and follow this road passing Ballowfields picnic area and Nature Reserve and Woodhall. After 7km (4 miles) you descend a steep hill. The route back takes the left turn at the bottom of the hill signed to Worton, but it is worth carrying straight on first and visiting Askrigg which is just down the road.
The route from the Worton turn descends to cross the River Ure and then goes up a short climb to the village. Take care as you cross the busy A684 by turning left and then immediately right. You now go up the longest climb on the route to Cubeck. As the road levels out you get a lovely ride back down the valley passing the village of Thornton Rust, before reaching Aysgarth village. Here you need to turn right and join the A684 for a short distance before taking the well sign posted left turn back to Aysgarth Falls National Park Centre.
